'star of the show'

inspiration....the original piece (below), i believe is from the mid 1800's based on other pieces i have seen during this time frame along with the price that was brought at auction... $18,560.00.

this piece was created with the circus in mind...each star featuring a performer that none can forget....

"star of the show"

limited edition of 10 pieces before retired...

stars of the show....

it's hard for me to pick just one star of the show....afterall, i love the entire show...lets take a peek under the big top...you decide for yourself who the star of your show is...

"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages..."

what would a circus be if not for a ringmaster building up everyones excitement of what is to come?  the ringmaster really does have his hands full...for his part is to manage, introduce the upcoming acts and bring the audience the excitement of the show.  he makes it look easy, as a professional always does; but it is indeed a difficult job...

and oh those clowns...those silly silly clowns!  what would the opening be if it weren't for those silly clowns entertaining in their silly little cars, doing acrobats and making the kids cry with laughter?  now who would let someone shoot them out of a cannon into a bucket of water?  well probably nobody over the age of a 14 year old boy!  so safe to say these clowns are grown children who wanted to laugh and play throughout their lives....lucky for us!

and if you are serious to be a grown up clown for ever and ever; ringling brothers had two clown colleges when i was a kid; one in their winter home of venice florida and the other one in sarasota...

ahhhh....the elephants...my very very favorite show of all....i remember seeing an elephant for the first time as a little girl and the feeling has never left me...

this is my animal by choice.

this is the creature that calls my name.

this is the animal that i will treasure till my death  (drama, afterall we are talking entertainment, right?)

this is the creature that makes my heart heavy with separation.

this creature pulls me, pulls my mind and heart;  i truly love this creation.

(obviously they are the 'star of my show')

the flying wallenda's...

the family of daredevil tightrope walkers....generation after generation has entertained us all at the circus...they will take your breath and return it to you when they are done...

let the horses in...

beautiful running horses...if you have been lucky enough you have seen the lipizzan stallions and all of their glory...i have always called them the flying lipizzans, so i wonder if long ago they were referred to as just that...

the grace the beauty of all of the horses cantering through the ring, either alone or with a rider it is something to be part of...you can just feel the movement of the horse and the performer within your own body...

when i was very little i was quite amazed, of course, of the wild animals and the trainer...but it didn't take me long to think the trainer must not be 'real smart' as a young child...i would become frightened by a roaring lion that didn't seem to want to do what he was being told to do...

and then walked in gunther....gunther gebel-williams of germany....with over 12,000 performances and injured a time or two, to say the least, by 'his' animals...he was an amazing trainer to watch at the circus...i was no longer scared to watch...there might be a hiss now and then but he and the lions and tigers seemed to be intune to each other...

the trapeze artists would again take my breath away....and i would feel myself leaning to this side or that side in movement to help the flyer directly to the catchers hands...the strength of both is obvious as they perform and the split timing is just that, split second...it makes me nervous and i often close my eyes...

from clowns to animals to the high wire...

every emotion can be felt at the circus

so now you choose - who is the star of the show?

hard to choose i know!

below is a grouping with #1 and #2 of the new circus series along with my old favorite; german checker board...
